Seeking Members for Mobility Subcommittee
Are you looking for alternative ways to get around town without using an automobile? Would you like to access town facilities such as schools, the library and town hall, churches, the post office, shops, parks and recreational sites, and link up to Bolton’s large number of trails without getting the car out? Today’s lifestyle includes more outdoor activities for health and recreation such as walking, jogging and bicycling; and anyone who has tried any of these will have experienced the unsafe conditions for pedestrians and cyclists on Bolton’s busy roads which do not have walkways or bike lanes.
Many of our neighboring towns including Stow, Acton, Sudbury and Lincoln have been gradually putting in walkways as a result of plans they made 10 to 20 years ago.
Now there is an opportunity for Bolton to look to the future and create a plan to improve our mobility options which will become part of the Town’s long range plan. Originally suggested by the Town Planner, the Public Ways Safety Committee quickly recognized the benefit and recently the Board of Selectmen approved the formation of a Mobility Committee to develop a Mobility Plan. The plan will draw from those produced by our neighboring towns but will be specific to Bolton’s needs and will include identifying and prioritizing opportunities, exploring funding sources and examining legal issues. It is anticipated that the Committee will have some members drawn from other Town Committees but the Town is looking for volunteers, particularly walkers, cyclists or parents who have a desire to improve our safety and enjoyment. If interested please contact the Town Secretary, Linda Day at email@example.com or 978-779-2297.
